Health Knowledge Management Glossary

The Knowledge Management Specialist Library has updated the glossary to include references which show the different knowledge management terms used in health care. The updated glossary is available here.

IKON Research Scholarships

IKON (Innovation, Knowledge & Organizational Networks) Research Centre, at Warwick Business School, University of Warwick, invites applications for doctoral research scholarships to run for 3 years (subject to satisfactory progress) starting in October 2007. These new scholarships provide £5000 p.a. which may be used towards Warwick University PhD fees (currently £3200 at UK/EU level) and/or living expenses. Successful applicants will be able to fully participate inthe IKON Research Centre activities. Applications should aim to complement any aspect of IKON's current research programme (click here for more information), but applicants with an interest in the following areas are especially welcome:
  • Comparative international (esp. UK, US, Brazil) studies of biomedical innovation focusing on the translation of innovation into clinical practice
  • The role of social networks and "communities of practice" in supporting innovation
  • The institutional and organizational barriers to the development of "open innovation" strategies by firms
  • The role of social factors, including trust, in the commercialization of early stage technology
  • The influence of fashion, social networks, and discourses on the spread of new management ideas and organisational forms
  • Knowledge and learning in project-based organizations
  • The circulation of innovation in health care
  • Practice-based approaches to knowing and learning in organisations

Human Relations - temporary open access

Until the end of April 2007, "Human Relations" is opening up access to all of its digital archive. Human Relations publishes innovative ideas in social sciences "and is one of the world's leading journals for the analysis of work, organizations and management. The archives date back to 1947. CHAIN has a new sub-group

CHAIN (Contact, Help, Advice and Information Networks) has added another sub-group to their network. There are now 5 sub-groups available:

  1. Research and evidence-based practice
  2. Widening participation in learning
  3. Innovation and improvement
  4. Macmillan Cancer Support
  5. Quality Improvement

The latest CHAIN sub-group, Quality Improvement is being set up with the support of The Health Foundation, "an independent charitable foundation working to improve the quality of healthcare across the UK." The sub-group is a virtual community for people involved with quality improvement, enabling them to share ideas, learn from each other, and build on experience. To join this network, click here.
